The lands ministry has announced measures to curb down increasing land evictions.
The lands minister, Judith Nalule Nabakooba told reporters on Sunday in Kampala that during this lockdown, the ministry is continuing to receive several reports about the same, from different parts of the country, and most of them are from Mukono, Mpigi, Nakasongola, Mubende, Kassanda, Buikwe, Wakiso, Sembabule, Hoima, Kagadi, Nebbi, Dokolo, Sheema, Mbale, among other districts.
In April, 2020, a similar directive was issued by the then lands minister, Beti Kamya to deal with a similar challenge.
The ministry hastens to emphasize that the rights of the existing tenants shall not be affected in any way, in situations where a landlord chooses to sell land to a different person other than the tenants during the lockdown period.
Nabakooba directed district security committees chaired by the RDCs to assist the lawful and bonafide occupants to remain and enjoy possession of their pieces of land during the lockdown.
