A 25-year-old man in Pader District is on the run after allegedly hacking his mother to death.
Erick Ojok, a resident of Atup village in Lunyiri Sub-county fled home after hacking 45-year-old Ketty Lamwaka twice on the head with an axe on Sunday.
Charles Odongtoo, the Lunyiri Sub-county Chairperson says according to reports from family members, the suspect on the fateful morning had intended to kill his sister but failed to get her after breaking the door to her grass-thatched hut.
In total fury, the suspect later went and broke the door to her mother’s hut where she was sleeping with his stepdad and hacked her twice on the head with an axe, leaving her severely injured, but she passed on shortly after an attempt to transfer her for emergency medical treatment at a local health facility.
The Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson David Ongom Mudong confirmed the incident saying reports indicate the suspect killed her mother in anger after she failed to serve him food on time.
Mudong says the deceased body was taken to Awere Health Center III pending post-mortem to ascertain the exact cause of death as efforts to apprehend the suspect are underway, since he is still on the run.
